Anonymous: How do you feel about vegetarians that only consume diary, eggs, ect. from humane, organic happy animals? Thanks :)

Veganism is a philosophy that animals are not here for human needs. If you’re drinking a glass of milk, it’s because a calf somewhere else is not.

I don’t really care how well the animals are treated. Their bodies are their own. You have no right to those products because although you may care for them, you don’t own them and you don’t “deserve” to treat yourself to their products.

soul-of-the-sun: Omg I love this blog! I've been a vegan for about 3 months now and reading all of this information makes me feel even more passionate about animal rights:) I was curious about ways I could educate more people about veganism besides not eating animal products.... I can't seem to get past the "being vegan is hard" argument because I come from a town where not a lot of people are educated about animal rights

I just only now received this!

But uhm, I would basically start out saying that vegans aren’t the only ones who eat plants, am I right? Meat eaters eat the same things we do! And substitutes aren’t necessary. That’s where things get pricey. But if people stick to natural foods like veggies, fruits, nuts, legumes, and grains they should be all set. If you shop around a bit or shop from local farmers you may be able to purchase cheaper.

People usually get angry over the whole animal rights thing. I start them out with health benefits and such since people are incredibly selfish. Tbh, talking about it doesn’t do much. People need to SEE it, because even if they’re aware an animal has died so they can eat it, they ignore how brutal this slaughtering process is. And if they can watch it and still feel nothing, I would be afraid of them for being so apathetic.

So basically, if “being vegan is hard,” they need to think about how hard it is for the animals that are being killed and tortured for their convenience.

Hey!

I think I’m going to make a page on my blog specifically for links to information/documentaries/books/recipes, basically anything any new vegan or person who is interested in learning about veganism should know or learn about like Earthlings, Food Inc, Forks Over Knives, The China Study, etc. I want it to range from the food, to the health aspects, to the environmental effects, and activism. (Information on the ALF can be included.)

So can you guys please send me links or titles of profound media you’ve watched/read?

And perhaps reblog this for other people to see?

Thank you!

Anonymous: Do you condone the visiting of zoos? Or is that non-vegan? Curious. I've asked many people, haven't received an answer yet.

Hmm, this isn’t really a black-or-white answer. It would really depend on the place we are discussing but I will attempt to word it simply.

Vegans will avoid places that exploit animals for financial gains.

Animals shouldn’t be viewed or kept enclosed for profits. That is enslavement. Especially, since most animals will be bred or even inbred to design more “aesthetically pleasing” animals.

No fenced in area will ever be the same as being in the wild.

However, there are places that rescue either endangered animals, animals previously abused or abandoned by zoos or circuses, or permanently handicapped animals that would otherwise be unable to survive in the wild and they care for them.

These preservations and/or animal sanctuaries sometimes do require funding to keep up the conditions of the park and I don’t have a problem with that.

It mostly depends the zoo’s motives and intentions.

The animals existing there must be because that is the only place they could be, not to be showcased for public viewing.

To people who adopt a “vegan diet” to lose weight.

Stop. Right. There.

Not only is it kinda sad that the only reason you want to go veg is selfish, but you are hurting our movement.

Veganism is not a diet. I’m glad you are currently refraining from animal products, of course, we need to prevent as much cruelty as we can, but do not tell people you are a vegan.

Veganism encompasses so much more than what you eat and clearly, if you do not care about any of that, you don’t fit the description.

What you are looking to say is you are on “a whole foods, plant-based diet.”

You’re part of the reason people think our lifestyles are temporary phases.

Do not trivialize our activism with your weight loss tactics. Considering veganism doesn’t always guarantee weight loss, it’s pointless to say anyway.

This has been a PSA from the Vegan Police.

theheartbrokendreamer: Not to mention they're portrayed as brainless idiots.

And our food is ALWAYS portrayed as disgusting as if meat-eaters have never had a vegetable in their lives.

I think we should just make our own films. Then we’d get a bunch of meat-eaters criticizing how we exemplify their lifestyles.

Can we just have one movie where vegans aren’t mocked?

I’m sick of us being the butt of the joke. It’s old and overused.

People actually think this brave woman was coerced into undergoing that brutal treatment. She should be praised, not pitied.

That’s true devotion to a cause you know to be right.

motionlesszombie: Your comment on the "Stop Animal Abuse" photo, are my thoughts exactly. The Majority say they are against animal abuse, yet they are actually all for it by engaging in 'normal', 'everyday' things that involve the harming of innocent lives. ugh, people such hypocrites.

Precisely!

I realize how rude I might sound, but seriously, if we allow people to think that we are okay with their exploitation of animals (as well as humans) just for the sake of their comfort and convenience, they wouldn’t change.

I also understand that not everyone is aware just how much harm they’re contributing to. The ignorance is so deep-rooted we don’t even realize it. I always had an unconditional love for animals but when I was a meat-eater, I had a disassociation with my food. I never really gave much thought to where it came from, I knew it was an animal but it tasted good and I was taught that we needed to eat it. Then I learned about it, somewhat forcefully, and realized that I needed to change ASAP.

I’m rambling. Dammit. Haha it’s because I’m angry.

Anyway,

TL;DR - people need to realize that they can’t love some species and slaughter others. That’s not how it works.
