I’ve seen a lot of talking about you guys, so I’d like to write a post for you.
Hello, I’m Jordan, this is my cat, Coal Clove, one of 6 cats that live with me:
She’s very cute, isn’t she? I love her very much.
And this is a cow, it’s also very cute, even as a grown up:
I’ve never been up real close to a cow, but this cow seems pretty happy.
I would never hurt either of these, or any animals. I’m a pacifist. I don’t believe in hurting or hating.
I’m sorry if this upsets you, but I enjoy meat. Especially steak.
And now you’re thinking I’m just sick. Well let me tell you, in some asian cultures, cat, dog, and many animals we find as normal pets are consumed. No matter how cute they are.
I do not personally think animal cruelty is right, but I’ve accepted something not many people have, or have even thought of:
No matter what I do, no matter what I eat, no matter what I say, organize, or protest, there will always be animals hurt, slaughtered, and killed, whether it’s for the benefit of mankind, or not.
You’re vegan? Okay, other people aren’t. And they never will be. No matter what you say. It is their belief, just like you have yours. If that changes to veganism, good for them, and you.
But if you really believe one day everyone in the world will stop doing something that has been done for thousands of years, you are a fool. What about slavery? That went on for thousands of years. Well guess what, just because it doesn’t happen in the U.S. doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.
Just like there will always be people who hate me for being a homosexual based on their beliefs, there will always be people who eat meat because of their beliefs.
But what it all boils down to is this, taste.
Some people are vegan for reasons like animal cruelty, that sickens them.
Well, some people don’t eat meat because they don’t like the taste.
For some people, it’s both.
And guess what. No matter how many pictures you put up of your delicious vegan food, it will not please everyone.
Some people just do not like the taste of vegetables, if we’re not forcing you to eat something you don’t like, please refrain from doing the same.
Of course, you don’t believe me. You’re probably thinking up a witty way to reblog this and make me look like an idiot.
Well, like you have every right not to believe me, I have every right not to believe you.
That’s beliefs for you, they’re like the facts about us. Everyone is different. You cannot expect everyone to ditch meat just because it hurts animals, because honestly, some people just don’t care.
So before you type up that post full of your beliefs on veganism, carnivorism, or just calling people a name, like bloodmouths, please be prepared for the people who disagree with you.
I believe everyone should have their own beliefs, and I don’t force my beliefs on anyone. I don’t argue with people because of what they believe. I argue with people because of how they act.
Please don’t be hurtful with what you say. Don’t stuff your beliefs down people’s throats. That goes for you carnivores, too.
But alas, the whole world will never all be kind, either, will it?
Because like I said, some people just don’t care.
Thank you for reading. Reblog and add on in any fashion, may it be praise or criticism.
Because I welcome it, with open arms.
To start, I thank you for going about this in a mature way instead of ranting like most carnist idiots on here.
However, I do not agree with some of the points you made.
You mention that in Asian cultures, dogs and cats are eaten. I don’t know about you but most meat-eaters are sickened by this. The point is that to say one animal is okay to eat but it’s sick to eat the other is hypocritical.
Just because there will always be evils in the world does not exempt us from change. With that logic, we might as well have no justice systems because people will always murder, steal, rape, and every other crime, so why try to prevent it at all?
Even if your family, friends, neighbors, classmates, coworkers, or anyone else you know doesn’t live morally doesn’t justify your own actions. It may seem like you can’t make a change but you are. Even with one vegan meal a week you can save thousands of gallons of water, hundreds of pounds of grains, and obviously you save the lives of animals.
For the rest, it isn’t about beliefs. It’s about morality and what is just and logical. Of course, these things can be subjective and open for interpretation about what is wrong or not but if a certain lifestyle is going to destroy the entire planet, I would think it’s up to those people with the slightest bit of compassion to do everything they can to prevent this from happening. Evidently, these changes will not occur overnight but we cannot give up before we even try.
