I don’t like being a militant vegan

vincentxanthony:

Well… let me rephrase that. I don’t like that I have to be one.I don’t like that anyone has to be one.

It sucks to me that there are people in the western world that are so unattached to things like the life of another. People are so stuck in their own world that it doesn’t matter how they affect others. It’s the same reason I always want to learn about things like oppression of other people. I won’t really ever know what it’s like, but I have a firm grasp on empathy. I know that if I were a person of color, I’d be stereotyped and not have the opportunity that I have now based on looks alone; if I were female or female identifying that I’d be marginalized for femininity alone; if I were certain religions, I might as well not go outside because of how many people would think me a terrorist.

I know that if I were an animal, I’d probably not want to be killed. I don’t want to be killed now, let alone killed then eaten. I don’t want to be hunted for sport, I don’t want to be locked up and fed grain and sawdust and hormones. I don’t want to be marginalized. I don’t want to be oppressed. I won’t do it to others.

I don’t like being a militant vegan because it sucks that people legitimately think we need to eat meat, drink milk, use animals for anything. I don’t like that society still teaches that. This same society teaches that Thanksgiving was a peaceful celebration, that homosexuality is unnatural, and we’re beyond racism. This same society uses oppressive imagery to get people to buy their history, culture, their product.

It sucks getting hate mail from people because we’re taught so much that we’re supposed to treat certain animals a certain way. It’s hard to not mention how this same society once taught that people of color were animals less than human, women are meant for nothing more than procreation, and how these ideas are still prevalent in media. I know we don’t eat other humans, and it’s impossible to compare them, but why treat anything, not just anyone in any way other than how you’d want to be treated?

I’m fucking tired of being a militant vegan because it’s absolutely ridiculous that anyone should be. I hate that there is a need for ANY kind of radical leftist thought. You’d think people would figure out that there is a commonality. But they don’t.  People yelling across their intersectionality, telling each other to stop. But I will never stop. The same reason I will never stop learning about other fights, and fighting how I can. I will never stop “shoving my beliefs down your throat” until society stops doing it.
